Thanks, all, but several folks suggested the common sense
alternative of breaking off that tiny little plastic stud in the 
knob shaft hole that I might have been able to see in the 
first place if I weren't such an old buzzard.  :)  Optivisor time!

Now about that lobster leg thing: was that with melted butter
or not?
