[Elecraft] power source and noise

And another thought--
The smallest, lightest power supply to carry for portable use is
surely the little charger [maybe 1.5 inches to a side] which Power
Sonic makes for the K2 internal battery option. With it plugged in
and the normal amount of transmitting, the K2 internal battery takes
many hours to discharge and then of course recharges when the rig is
turned off. The charger has to be connected DIRECTLY across the
battery using a fused line and an extra round battery connector on
the rear panel, which can also be used to power 12V accessories.

Just a thought... I bought a 35 amp/hr deep cycle battery at a low cost
store for about $22. It will run the K2 without need for recharge for a
VERY long time, maybe 48 hours of continuous contest style use, or a month
of casual use. Recharging by any of many methods is simple. Won't carry it
with you, but for home use, nothing could be quieter, and very little
cheaper.
