[Elecraft] K1 Portable Antenna Experience

Not with a K1, but I have a 'homebrew' buddipole I've used used with my =
K2 ( http://www.qsl.net/w3ff/ ) . I think it exhibits surprisingly good =
performance for a collection of PVC, Radioshack speaker wire & whips and =
well worth the $30 & the hour or two to make it.

As you've noticed, it breaks down to a bundle of 2' sections which is =
great for portable/backpacking. I assemble/mount mine on top of a =
painters pole that telescopes to 18' (that can double as a 'walking =
stick' when collapsed). I use large velcro 'Cow ankle straps' (like Coax =
organizers but MUCH cheaper) to strap the painter pole to something =
vertical to hold the 'mast' upright.

But not sure it's $340 worth of performance (with all accessories) for =
the commercial version. For that kind of $$$ I instead bought a Force 12 =
vertical dipole (that also breaks down into 2' sections)

While not absolutely necessary, I think it helps to have an antenna =
analyzer to adjust the whips where you want the antenna to be resonant =
in the band (the Autek RF-1 is perfect, small and batt powered)
