OK. I found something else that is definately KPA100 related or at least
related to the KSB firmware that shipped with the KPA100.
I got some comments tonight that it sounded like I had an intermittant
connection on my microphone cable. I disconnected the mic from the K2,
plugged it into the TS-2000, asked them if they heard it on that radio and
they said no.
I then started backing the power on the K2 down until I was in
"QRP" mode. At 10w, ALC action is smooth. As soon as you hit 11w though,
the ALC gets VERY jumpy and causes choppy audio, very much like an
intermittant microphone connection. At 10w, if I say
"Hellooooooooooooooooo", loud and steady, into the microphone, there is NO
ALC action at all. Move to 11w and I get 2 ALC bars.
In normal speach in QRO mode, I'm getting 5 ALC bars.
I recorded this off-air tonight. You can hear what I'm talking about in
this file: http://www.kc4kgu.com/k2100-alc.wav
