[Elecraft] 817 - the VHF View

Hi Gang,

I simply had to pipe in on this one. After all the poo-pooing of the 817
lately, try this one on for size. DON'T USE IT FOR HF!  In fact, I bought
mine for VHF+ portable contesting.  So for the guys that are saying that
their 817s are gathering dust, I say whip it out, dust it off and get ready
for one of the best contests of the year, the ARRL June VHF party!!  You
have 6,2 and 432 all right at your fingertips. Add some homebrew $5 yagis

and HAVE SOME SERIOUS FUN. This plan netted me a 10th place overall QRP
finish in the September VHF contest (with only 7 hours of operating time no
less.)

OK, I agree, the 817 is no K2, but there is no reason to let it collect
dust.
