I've been tracking Elecraft sales on eBay since August, 2001. Of 24 K-2's
offered for sale, 9 have not sold because the reserve was not met. Of 8
K-1's offered, 1 did not sell because the reserve was not met.

Average price of the 15 K-2s that did sell was $713, ranging from $586 for
a K2 with SSB, NB, and a mic, to $911 for a K-2 with SSB, NB, 160, I/O, and
a mic. Average final bid for the 9 K-2s that did not meet reserve was
$639, ranging from $455 for a K-2 in Australia, with SSB, NB, and 160
options, to $760 for a K-2 with AT2, SSB, 160, Internal batt, and NB.

Average price for the 7 K-1's that did sell was $331, ranging from $227 for
an unassembled 2-band kit to $405 for a K-1 with AT1, and NB. The 1 K-1
that did not meet reserve had a final bid of $334, and had the AT1, NB,
battery kit, and KTS1 options.

All in all, I would say they are selling OK, but some auctions are
experiencing weak demand. I think some of this may be timing, some may be
due to reserves being a little too high.

The cost of setting a reserve price is pretty low -- a buck or so, as I
recall. If you aren't desperate to sell your rig, you might consider
setting a fairly high reserve, and then see what happens. If it doesn't
sell, enter it again!

I see a lot of K2's offered for sale here on the list (seems to me that's
like trying to sell sandwiches at an 'all you can eat' buffet but that's
another subject). I see a few K1/K2's offered on eBay but they never seem
to meet the reserve (I'm not interested in making any profit per se but I
wouldn't want to lose $$$ either). My question is, how successful are K1/K2
owners in selling their rigs? While it's premature (I'm not finished
building mine yet) I'd be interested in eventually selling mine not because
I'm not happy with it as rather I'd simply like to build another and just
don't need two (or 3, or 4 ;). Mike - AD5IU
