[Elecraft] Bob Denniston, VP2VI, SK

Received the sad news this morning that Bob Denniston,
VP2VI, was found dead in bed at age 84.  He was a former
president of ARRL.  Many of you will remember Bob for
having pioneered the concept of DXpeditions in 1947 as
VP7NG (Bahamas) and been a member of other DXpeditions
to Clipperton (FO8AJ) and Malpelo on 1969.


His wife, Nell, had recently passed away.  They met in
Wash. DC during WW2.  Nell once surprised when she
commented on a CW qso from the W0NWX shack.  It turned out that she was
a CW operator at  WAR, a station in Wash DC during WW2, and that was how
Nell
and Bob met !! She never took an interest in becoming licensed, though.

Bob was a very keen CW person and active up to his death.
