[Elecraft] FYI: N0SS Wideband Noise Generator: 2 thumbs up!

All:
After digging through my albeit meager Junk Box, augmented
with a trip to the local Radio Shark (ahem, Shack), I built the
N0SS Wideband Noise Generator suitable for use with the
Spectrogram software to align the K2 receive filters.
Bottom line: If you're exacting enough to be using the
Spectrogram software to align the K2 (a wise move, in my
opinion), you should provide a generalized noise source other
than an unoccupied frequency.
I built mine on one of those stupid little Radio Shack
experimenter breadboards, and it worked nicely for the
purpose of aligning the rig (pictures available upon request).
I was a little bummed about having to cannibalize my WM-2
for a 9V battery, but I'd bet that a 12V supply, common to
99.99% of all contemporary ham shacks, would work just
as well.
For the K2, you don't need to worry about adding the mods
to optimize noise or output levels; the volume control on the
K2 works nicely to regulate the signals levels presented to
the PC sound card. You can actually observe the positive
effects of the "SSB Filter Flattening Mod" for the K2.
It's a sweet little accessory for the K2 that you won't use
often, but is worth setting up for the few times you will need
it.
