[Elecraft] strange noises on 80

Hallo!

while operating from CU2, I noticed something strange on the 80M
Band. While tuning around 3525 (if I remember correctly), I could
hear the ~10Hz steps of the VFO - a raspy sound, or, if tuning very 
slowly, very short clicks. Removing the antenna had no effect, and
I could hear the noise better with the RF amp on.  

Since I've returned, I have not had the time to see if this still
going on and/or to check other bands. Any ideas what this might be?
