Bill - Thanks for your comments. Recall that my original post concerned the
bandwdith over which noise is integrated. Your comment about IMD
invalidating my asumption about linear stages, while correct for some
circumstances, is not a consideration when we are talking strictly about
noise limited reception in the absence of strong signals which inpsired my
original post. IMD is nonlinearity associated with strong signals, in the
K-1 90 dB or more above the noise floor. If one turns off the AGC, then the
linearity assuymption is valid in the K-1 and usually in most other
receivers as well.
I regret the omission of the 0. in front of 300 khz. The bandwidth I was
referring to is, of courses 300 Hz, or 0.300 kHz. Sorry for the confusion.
