Not at all. The AEA Isoloop is an excellent example of a high-efficiency, 
high-Q HF antenna. It is rather narrow bandwidth -- certainly narrower 
than the input bandpass filters of the receiver.

Another example might be a limited-space antenna, like a mobile HF 
antenna.

Of course, the downside of something like the Isoloop is you have to 
retune after you QSY only a few kHz.
