First, let me admit a bias.  I have tried a number of mobile-style 
loaded antennas.  To get them to work effectively, I have found a 
counterpoise to be necessary.  By the time all that is done, I'm back 
to thinking that my trusty (end fed) Zepp is still the most practical 
for light travel (backpacking, for example).  That being said...

As I understand the theory, most of the radiating occurs where the 
current is, below the resonator.  This area is rather short with the 
MP1. 

My question for MP1 owners:  Has anyone experimented with adding 
several feet of shaft between the base and the loading coil?  Results 
from a scientific-style experiment would be even more interesting 
than qualitative results.
