Kirby:

First I would make sure you have the freq counter probe connected to TP2.
If it is indeed connected to the TP2 point then I would check to make real
sure you have installed R98 & R99 on the bottom of the board and that you
connected the leads of L33 to the coreect points on the board. Check the
voltage at Pin 8 of U11. If you have a scope you can check to see if the
oscillator is ocscillating by putting your scope probe o the junction of L33
and D37. Also make sure that Q24 is installed and check to make sure it is
installed correctly. Also make sure you have not installed U11 backwards.
My first guess is the absence of R98 or R99.

73 & Good Luck. If you were closer I would be glad to take a look at it for
you.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 BFO Test Showing "0000.0"

Good Morning!

Since I won't be able to work again on my K2 for several days I thought I
would go ahead and see if I might be able to get some help in the meantime
so
I can be "fully armed" when I get back to the project...

Last night I was going through the tests for the second phase of the RF
board
assembly. All of the tests were going smoothly until the BFO test. When
conducting that test I received the "0000.0" display. I looked at the note
following that step and also scanned through the Troubleshooting section but
it was getting late and I didn't have time to really digest it.

Has anyone else experienced this in building your K2? Could you possibly
give
me some ideas as to where to begin looking for problems? As I mentioned,
everything else up to this point checked out fine. Also, I took off the
bottom
cover and it made no difference (I read one article on the reflector where
this action isolated a problem due to L33(?) being to close to the cover).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

... Kirby (KB4UTZ)
