[Elecraft] K2 on 160m with battery power?

I've searched the earlier posts without seeing a satisfactory reason why the
K2 draws so much current on 160m when running into a less than perfect SWR,
or on battery power. Yes, I know the K160 manual mentions this, but that's
answering why.

I fitted the K160 module this weekend and was pleased to see it draw only 2
amps when outputting 10 watts into a dummy load (13.8 volt supply). I went
to visit a friend with a couple of very large antennas and demonstrated how
good the K2 was... only to be embarrassed by the hi current warning and only
being able to put out about 1 watt on battery power.

Is there a way to improve this as I would like to run 160m while portable
and currently that doesn't look viable. The other bands work fine while on
the internal battery.
