Not extreme at all! 

If the noise increases when the antenna is connected, it means that the 
receiver's 
MDS is so good that external noise picked up by the antenna is the limiting 
factor
in hearing weak signals, not internal receiver noise. There is thus nothing 
to be gained by going to a lower MDS design (more sensitivity) for that 
antenna-rig 
setup. 

Of course for a different antenna, band or location, lower MDS may be 
worthwhile.
