I just upgraded S/N 1289 to Rev. 2 firmware a couple of weeks ago and
encountered no problem with noise.
Just to be sure after reading your post, I put my rig on a dummy load and
noted that the noise level "sounds" very similar on all bands - there is
nothing 'special' about any band. Also, tuning makes no difference in the
noise level. With the preamp on and a dummy load attached, on 30 meters I
have very weak spurs at 10103.17, 10114.63 and a stronger spur at 10137.18.
Only the latter was strong enough to be heard over the noise when an antenna
connected, and then rather weakly. The other two are completely masked by
the 'band noise' in normal operation.
You have an early serial number, Alex. Might there be some difference in how
the boards were laid out or perhaps you have some mod that is introducing
noise that isn't used on the later units?
