Actually, the noise blanker does negatively impact the performance of the
receiver. That's why the Elecraft manual says "You should leave the noise
blanker OFF unless noise is present. If signals become degraded with the
noise blanker turned on, try a different setting, or try turning off the
preamp."

Sometimes I find that it is necessary to turn the preamp ON in order to get
the noise blanker to work properly. That seems to be necessary to get the
noise level up where the NB can deal with even in the Low Threshold setting.
But I do that ONLY when absolutely necessary, since running the preamp when
it is not needed also degrades the ability of the receiver dynamic range.

Since the NB and Preamp individually can degrade the receiver performance, I
doubt if using them together does anything good for it <G>.
