[Elecraft] Number 1205 - struggles

Hi all, I bought a K1 with the 4 band module and the ATU at Dayton...I
wasn't sure if I really needed it until Peter Zenker grabbed me by the
arm and starting ranting about the superiority of the 4 band version.
<grin>

Anyway...here is it, a month later and I'm still not done building it.
Summertime is the worst time of the year for me to try and build
anything as we are very busy with the yard and vacations, and all that
stuff.

I built the 4 band filter, passes all the resistance checks.  Appears
to be OK.

I then built the front panel board, everything seemed to go together
fine. I got the blue 100K 10 turn plastic pot in my kit. I triple
checked it with an ohm meter and found it to be in good working order.
I've had a few of these plastic pots not work so well but this one
seems fine. LCD install was painless and popping on the knobs finished
it off.

Off to the RF board...all resistance checks on page 29 of the docs are
good. DC voltage checks on page 30 are all fine, using a 12.1 VDC
battery I got 6.0 vdc at P1 pin 15, 11.9vdc P1 pin 16, U3 Pin 5 had
4.15 vdc, U3 Pin 6 had 8.37 vdc.  All within spec.

Wound L2, T1 and T2....checked them with an ohmmeter after
installation, all appear to be fine. Added the sides, no problems.
Installed the coaxial jumper on page 35, no problems.

Alignment Test Part 1

LED Test - Passed
Error Code Test - Got E27 and then E42 - OK per docs
Sidetone and AF Amp - Great!
Voltmeter showing 11.8 vdc
Keyer works fine
Relays all sounded OK...filter board was working ok to this point.

Here's is where I'm having a problem....

VFO alignment - I'm using 68pf for the 80Khz tuning range. i have
wound L1 and installed it.

VFO Range test:

Power up rig, tap menu and get CAL on the LCD. Change display to
OPF..I get 03.2 with the 2 flashing.

I move to OSC mode, I get 3 and then 081...BUT IF I TURN THE TUNING
KNOB THIS FREQUENCY DOES NOT CHANGE...EVER. If I roll the pot all the
way to the right (Clickwise) the display shows E42 when the wiper hits
the stopper.

I removed L3, winded it again. Check C2 and C7 for solid installation.
I pulled the front panel off to see if my pot is working...it appears
to be.

What do I check now?

I realize 3.081 is a bit low...will have to play with C2 or the
windings on L3 I'm sure.  Anyone know why my tuning pot isn't
affecting the VFO freq?
