Guessing here that you meant to type opposite _sideband_.
If this is the problem, then you should also be able to clearly
hear CW signals (in SSB mode) on both sides of zero as you tune
through them, like when using a direct conversion reciever. You
may need to revise your BFO ("filter") setting for FL 1 on the
offending mode (USB, or LSB). Also check that the ground wires
are well attached to the SSB filter crystal cans. The "book"
settings per the manuual are normally
close, but using spectrogram often gives some improvement.
It is also possible to mis-figure the "book" settings. Also,
if the setting for the 4 MHz MCU oscillator is off, it can
change the calibration of everything, as the radio uses this
for a reference for all other calibrations. If this were way off,
then the "book" FL1 settings would be incorrect.

It might not hurt to go through a full alignment....the BFO
calibration could have shifted for example.

On the other hand, if you are actually talking about _carrier_,
(which there is only one of, so no "opposite" possible)
then you need to tweek the balance pot on the SSB module as
discribed in the manual for that kit. If you can't get a pronounced
null (for example you run out of adjustment when things are still
improving) then you need to do some troubleshooting, and figure
out why.

If (on the third hand) you are getting full carrier AM, as
your choice of subject suggests, then it may be a combination of
both of these, or perhaps a problem in the modulator itself.
