I have not read all my email but tried to find all on this thread.  It seems
to me that the easiest way to experiment would be to add a pig-tail coming
out one of the existing holes.  This can be strain relieved through the hole
during the experimental phases of the project.  Various connector can the
dealt with until a final configuration is reached.  Since he is willing to
add a new hole when done, using this "dangling wire" approach will allow
full flexibility of connector choice also.

Just my opinion.
