I didn't want to add any holes for my pv charge controller, either, at
least not yet. Since I'm not using the serial interface, I used a Radio
Shack coaxial panel-mount power connector in the hole, just clamping it in
place.  It's not the most attractive, but is secure and has lasted 3 years
so far (hard to believe these rigs are that old!).  Eventually I may find a
connector for one of the transverter holes, or drill a dedicated hole, but
things are working fine for now.

I attached the wires from this jack directly to the Faston tabs that
connect to the battery.  This is important, as trying to charge the battery
through the existing diode & resistor will probably cause the charge
controller to remain on constantly, destroying the battery.
