The wider the bandwidth of a passive filter, the greater it's insertion loss
will be....
so using the wideband-ssb filter, the reciever has less gain. 6dB sounds
about right.
If you take very careful measurments you may be able to see the increase in
insertion loss as
you increase the bandwidth of the CW filter.
This effect is ONE of the problems with the dual conversion scheme used in
70's vintage rigs.
They typically had a 500+ kHz bandpass filter in the first IF that gave
extremely high insertion loss.
This loss had to be offset by increased gain elsewhere, which caused all
maner of ills.
