Hi guys,
I have had my K2 for quite some time now s/n 323. I have the SSB option with
the MH2 Heil microphone. I have not used SSb much at all. I am mostly a CW
operator.
I recently purchased one of the HF Packer amplifiers from the group buy that
Virgil Stamps K5OOR put together. This is a very nice compact amp coverting
all the HF bands. 2 watts input gives 35 watts out. You can see the amp at
http://hfprojects.com I had to put this here because I know I will be
hammered with e-mail asking for details
Now back to my problem. Now that I have the amp I thought it would be fun to
do some causual SSB operating and SSB for field day. I tried using SSB
today. I am getting muffled audio reports. I have set the OPT1 filter for
USB and LSB using spectrogram on 20 meters for transmit audio as a starting
point. I have tried fine tuning the transmit audio with an on the air QSO
with John K7FD. I was able to improve the muffled audio some by moving the
filter a little further away from the center. If I go further with the
filter the audio gets worse. The best setting is 142 on LSB which is a
setting of 49140.1. My audio is still being reported as constricted and
metalic sounding. This was confirmed by two stations I had a QSO with. How
can I improve the audio from being metaical and constricted? I have the most
recent firmware for the SSB board which is one of the first SSB boards. This
problem occurs both with the amp and without the amp.
Thanks for any help,
Glenn WA7SPY
