Which 'hack' are you referring to? If it's the sidetone mod (to improve the
tone) there should be ample volume before/after.

Post mod, using the ST L menu entry I can set my sidetone level to an
uncomfortably loud level.

Which btw, makes me conclude the relatively low receive audio I experience
otherwise is not due to the AF amp itself.
