FW: [Elecraft] KIO2 - sidetone blues -- less blue

I sure hope you meant to say "[I m]anaged to put the Q5 gate lead onto RP7
pin 4 instead of U8"!. If not, which RP7 pin did you hit? RP7 pin 4 is at
ground potential, and shouldn't work.

As to the volume level (asuming you are driving U8), I don't remember it
going up or down when I built my KIO2. I run my ST-L at about 10 for
headphones, about 30 for an MFJ External speaker, and about 25 for the
Internal Speaker. So, it's highly variable how much drive you need. With
what ST-L setting and speaker are you noticing a problem.

Managed to put the Q5 gate lead onto U8 pin 4 instead of RP7, & now we have
sidetone, Houston. Only thing is, it's much lower volume than before. I
wonder why that is?

I had the Rev A control board so I had to hack it. Now I'm damned if I
can get the !@#% sidetone to work.
I have firmware rev 2.01,

I changed the menu item to U8 pin 4,

I can hear the KIO2 oscillator on 16.9 MHz,

I have inspected the hack umpty times -- it all looks fine to me, no
shorts or bridges visible.

Heck, it's only one cut trace, one cap & 2 new wires, and only one
wire has to be right to get the sidetone I believe [Q5 gate to U8 pin
4].

And everything worked PERFECTLY before I started on this little exercise
=(

Any hints or thoughts??

The trace to be cut is a green band about 1 mm wide with black borders on
both sides, right? I checked for continuity from Q5 gate to U6 pin 25 and
there isn't any, so I think I did that right.
