What you need is a "HeliCoil" thread repair. It looks like a piece of
spring, at about the length of the thread socket. Damaged thread is
taped out to the next higher size (about) and then the coil is inserted
in. Can be locked in with "LockTite," etc. Provide a stainless steel,
prosperous/bronze, etc. surface rather than aluminum. You can get kits,
$25+ +++ expensive if you only need one or two. Or better yet find a
repair shop that has them and will install then for you. Kits and
refills can be found by a search of the net. Not sure of the size of
the thread or I would have given you several links. May want to buy the
minimum and advertise here on the reflector.
Used them in the NAVY - meet Navy/Military specs, when properly
installed and QA'ed.

Subject: [Elecraft] KPA100 side panel stripped screw threads
Hello all,
I managed to strip the threads in one side of the heatsink that receives
the
side panel screw. The is the thin channel, not a drilled and tapped
screw
hole. This happened after a couple installations of the KPA100. Those of
you
that will be swapping out tops may want to exercise caution. No hard
feelings though, this is a great kit and the quality is high throughout!
I jammed in electrical tape to give something for the screw to grab on
to
but am searching for a more elegant way of fixing this. Perhaps an
insert of
some sort that would be inserted into the heatsink?
