If the main board is reworked, a slight increase in the spacing between the
front panel and control boards would be useful. I tried to use a crimp on
cable header for mic configuration but with the backing in place to keep
the wires in place I was unable to put the control board back in place. My
connector was from 3M number 3452 and is 7/16 in height.
I don't think that would be enough to justify bumping the model number to a
K3. K2B or something perhaps. I would see a K3 as using DDS for frequency
synthesis. No worry about drift and the possibility of pseudo(?) IF shift
under software control.
My main wish list for the K2 currently includes something which would not
be hard to do. Namely, an enhanced KSB2 board. The main changes would be
the addition of a microphone amplifier on board for use with mics that have
low output. Of course, the amplifier could be turned off if not needed.
Also, it might have a couple of levels of gain that the user could select
depending on their mic.
The other feature of an enhanced KSB2 would be programmable VOX
sensitivity. I tried changing the resistors on my KSB2 for use with my Heil
BM-10 headset but I was still not happy with the VOX operation. The VOX
still wasn't working well enough for me so I have been using an MH2 mic
instead.
I have some UI issues with the 2.01e firmware as well. I'm hoping they have
been changed in the latest firmware. I need to contact Elecraft directly
about this as they don't have information on their web site yet detailing
changes between different releases of firmware.
Cheers!
