Subject: [Elecraft] K2 #1185 lost its innocence
Since last weekend K2 # 1185 is equipped with the KPA100.
Still mainly intended for QRP it is now capable to punch out a 100
Watt signal, should the need arise.
Since I carefully read the manual and did the inventory, the kit went
together without problems.
Whishlist:
Always a firmware version that keeps operating the K2 simple and easy.
_Not_ on my wishlist:
General coverage receiver: This would probably ruin the RX
performance. As can be seen on many "general coverage" transceivers.
Passband tuning: Used to brute force SSB filters to CW. The K2 has
switchable bandwidth, thank you.
DSP: Another noisy CPU, even if it gives me 255 different settings.
The KAF does a good job.
Touch Screen: Please do not replace the switches and potentiometers by
software. Connecting a PDA, e.g. a Palm for remote control should
satisfy the people who want "to do it in software".
USB or network adapter: Elecraft makes fine rigs, not computers.
Right?
Just my _very_ personal oppinion. (Warm up your flame throwers now...)
