To assist another K2er in troubleshooting, a couple of weeks ago I posted
a message on this reflector showing the VFO RF voltage levels in my K2 on
each band. As I recall, the RF voltages on all bands were about 0.6 Vrms
except for 10 and 17 meters, where the RF voltages were greater than 1.0
Vrms. This was measured at the gate and source of Q18 on the RF board.
The RF voltages at TP1, however are within the normal range on all bands
(or at least they were when I did the Test & Alignment, Part II back in
May).
N0SS said that my K2 looked like a classic example of a K2 in need of the
"VFO ALC mod" and he sent me a mod sheet titled "K2 Modifications for use
with the KPA100" written by Wayne Burdick, N6KR. It covers the VFO ALC
mod and the 10/12M BPF mod. Both mods are recommended to "ensure that
your K2/100 transceiver meets FCC spectral purity requirements on 10
meters...."
I decided to hold off on doing the mods until I buy the KPA100 kit next
month at the ARRL SW Division convention in Escondido (where I assume
that Elecraft will have a booth), because I assumed that the mod parts
would be included with the KPA100 kit.
It seems to me that, if the K2 can possibly not meet FCC spectral purity
requirements, that the nesessary parts for the mods should be provided
free by Elecraft.
Am I assuming too much???
