I'm not sure about software written for the K2, but every program I have
written for the FT-1000MP and other software for that same radio all have
the com port parameters embedded within the program and there's no need
to set up the com port because it gets set up automatically whenever you
run the program. BTW, the FT-1000MP uses the same com port parameters as
the K2, i.e., 4800, N, 8, 2,

"I think I have downloaded K2 Remote Setup, but it did not seem to run as
long as the six or so minutes to download. I downloaded to the disc
drive. The hard drive (system programs) doesn't seem to like taking this
info from the disc drive."

I don't know how large "K2 Remote Setup" is, but some ISPs may not allow
downloading of files greater than 1MB in size. Also, what are you
referring to when you say, "disc drive"? Why not just download the
software to your hard drive to an empty folder? If it's in a ZIPped
format, unzip it and run it's setup program (setup.exe) from there to
install it.

"I have connected the K2 to the serial port. I have run the automatic
search for new devices without success."

Windows will not find a new com port if it has already previously
installed your existing com ports. The K2 is NOT a "new device", so
Windows won't find the K2, either.

"What am I doing wrong, and what is the correct way to proceed."
----------
1) Create a new folder on C:\ drive and download the software to that
folder.
2) If the downloaded file has a ".zip" extension, unzip it into that same
new folder.
3) Run the file named "setup.exe" and follow the instructions that appear
to complete the installation of the program.
4) Connect your K2 to an unused com port on your computer using a serial
cable (NOT a null-modem cable), then turn on the computer and your K2 and
run the program.
