There are many manufacturers of USB boards.  Some work fine, some don't
work with some external serial devices.  There does not yet seem to be
complete standardization for USB boards in the industry.

The RS-232 serial interface has been around a long time and all
manufacturers seem to comply with the RS-232 standard.  I recommend that
the user stick with RS-232 serial ports until USB technology has a
standard that is adhered to by everybody.
