I've designed and built multiband 100W HF amateur transceivers at home. 
They're not miniature, though. But it can be done.

I think what the Handbook writers were doing was to explain why there are no 
projects in the Handbook to build your own FT-1000 equivalent.

Yup - it's easy because of the genius of those who designed the kits, wrote 
the manuals and produced the entire package, then stood behind it with tech 
support and upgrades - AND managed to do so at a competitive price. 

Duplicating is easy compared to building the first one.

I still have and use my latest pre-K2 homebrew transceiver. But not as much 
as my K2! 

Here's a thouht - maybe future issues of the Handbook wil use a K2 as the 
example transceiver....
