[Elecraft] Running low power (supply)

Hello all,

I saw an article in SPRAT (Spring 1996 [GQRP club magazine]), where someone 
was running a 100W rig off a car battery, which was being charged by a 1A 
power supply and the limiting resistor was a lightbulb!

I was wandering if I had KBT2 option in my K2, could I get away with using a 
small power supply (say 750mA) which supplies just enough current to charge 
the battery and run the rig in receive mode? Assuming the resistor does the 
same job as the light bulb?

P.S.: Also any suggestions for other fast chargers welcome. Perhaps someone 
could host a page about the various charging arrangements, I know it would 
make my life easier ;)
