I would look at the list at http://www.qsl.net/la3za/K2/mod.html and
only consider the six modifications under Basic K2: Improved
Performance. When you buy a new K2 now, two of those will be included: 

- Frequency shift mod (assuming you get firmware ver 2.02E or later)
- VFO - PLL interaction (7185 kHz)

That leaves four to choose between. None of them are required for a good
operational K2, so don't think about them before you complete the K2 and
have tuned it and made your first contacts. 

After you get some experience in operating the K2, go back to the list
and consider the four mods and start looking at the other ones down the
list. Although there are almost 50 mods listed there, none of them are
essential, and many of them have been made by people with special needs,
or who found building so fun that they could not stop after the K2 was
completed!
