[Elecraft] OT: PW-1/MP-1 question

Greetings, all. Short, easy question.  On the Super Antenna PW-1 or
MP-1-type models, is there an electrical connection between the antenna
"ground" (coax braid side) and the support clamp?
The reason I ask this is I'm building the "Simple & Portable HF Vertical
Travel Antenna" from July QST, and the author has such an electrical
connection.  My crude understanding of antennas is that since radials are
being used, the connection to the ground-mounting rod is unneeded.  I plan
on modifying the design so that I'm not limited to the ground rod, but can
also easily use a clamp of some type to attach the antenna to other
objects.
