I would tend to agree with Jim. I see the kitbuilding experience as part
of the package, not the main reason. The main reason I will be buying a
K2 is because of its price/performance ratio. The specs and testamonials
all say that this little radio is as good as something you would spend
thousands on. Being that I am not willing to spend thousands on a radio,
I will get the best for my money: the K2. I love a great receiver.
Almost bought an Omni VI but some things came up to prevent that. (At a
good price too). So here I am again... waiting to get my hands on a great
radio.
I am kinda scared to put the K2 together. It will probably be a hack job.
I have put components onto a board in another kit and I found that I am
pretty good at it. The part I am concerned with is the putting the wrong
part in the wrong place. I guess taking an inventory will help with that.
And taking my time
In the end of the build, I will appreciate the radio more because of the
"blood, sweat, and tears" I put into it. And that will make spending the
money more worthwhile.
So my main reasons for a K2:
1. For the money, the best radio with top notch performance (again, I have
no practical knowledge yet, I am going on what I have read.)
2. Modules - I will be getting the K2, SSB, and 160M options at first.
Then go on to the KAT2, KIO2, NB, etc.... This will extend the enjoyment
of building it..
3. The kit building experience - This is still going to be an important
part of the K2, but not the most important.
Of course, everyone gets a K2 for their own reasons.... in the end, the
radio sells for whatever their reasons.
