Subject: k1 and k2
i have now built the k2 for the west manchester club and the k1 (my
christmas present!) i enjoyed building both rigs. The k1 was bang on,
first time. the k2, only one very minor niggly fault, which i would like
to mention, in case anyone else suffers the same.
when i put the sideband option in, I got no output on tx.
i checked, re checked and triple checked all soldering, toroids, etc. i
eventually located the fault; one of the transistor pads on the sideband
board was perfect on the underside, but when i checked with a meter, it
showed open circuit with the same pad on the other side of the board. I
assume that i had damaged the plated "hole" when i pushed the component
lead through! wonder if anyone else has done this? I also picked up one
of those tiny capacitors marked 100 and read it as 100pf!, instead of
10pf.Silly trick, easily rectified when i found i was a cap. short!
I have no complaints at all about the quality of either rig except for
the magical quality of that little slide switch inside the K2. i must
have caught that switch a dozen times and switched it over accidentally
when aligning the K2. The number of times i have read of others doing
the same!! I was beginning to think that it had a built in micro-relay!
I would like to thank all elecraft staff for their excellent service and
the high quality of their products. happy qrp new year to all.
