I have a small trimpot alignment tool made by Bourns. I use this tool on the 
trimmer caps to exercise them. I place the recessed end over the trimmer 
adjust slot and spin the tool between my palms like a boy scout starting a 
fire with two sticks. A second or two of this treatment seats the trimmer 
rotor. I learned this on my first K2 and always do this before I try to align 
the radio. If you don't have one of these tools you can use a small 
screwdriver but be careful the screwdriver does not jump out of the slot.
