[Elecraft] PDA adaptor and KIO2

After seeing some of the responses I decided others might have interest in
my off-reflector response to Bob.

Hi Bob

(off the reflector) Need to know the brand of PDA in question. Handspring
and some other PDA's do not have true serial voltage on the serial port
(they require a special cable with voltage bump technology in the cable
connector, Palms do BUT ... all PDA's require a null modem cable to swap Rx
& Tx and none currently will work with any software or hardware requiring
handshaking. I suspect that you are going to have to use a serial to usb
abapter (available from RS or Belken and others .... around $80) instead of
just a cable. USB sends at a much higher data rate than a serial port can
deal with. Without an adapter, it will work just fine in the Serial to USB
direction, but the USB will blow the serial port out of the water going the
other way. There are PDA to External Modem connector cables (9 and 25 pin)
available in the
$25 range (no voltage circutry) and $35 (with voltage bump). Unfortunately I
am on the road and don't have access to the bookmarks on my development
machine. I am currently using the standard K2 software on my USB laptop thru
the Belken adaptor listed above. I am also developing K2 control for the
PalmOS.

If I can be of any further help, let me know off the reflector.
