[Elecraft] Is there a NEW "Filter Flattening" Mod?

Recent correspondence with a new K2 owner brought up the issue of the
"Filter Flattening Mod" described in the Application Note provided on the
Elecraft Reflector under "Builders Resources/Elecraft Application Notes/K2
Adjustment and Mod Articles".

The Application Note says that one can flatten the passband of the filter by
adjusting L-34 for a better response but that by doing so "the overall
signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of the K2 receiver will be compromised".

The Application Note then describes a modification that includes removing
C-180 from the r-f board and installing a transistor switch that places 120
pf in parallel with C-182 during SSB operation with the SSB OPT-1 filter.

I installed the complete mod with good results right after it first appeared
in June of 2000.

I understand that new owners are now being told to simply remove C-180 and
then realign L-34.

Is this all that is necessary to get the desired passband AND avoid
compromising the signal-to-noise ratio on older K2's as well?

Has it been found that the transistor switch and the 120 pf cap that is
placed in parallel with C-182 as described in the above application note are
unnecessary?

If so, I'll remove them from my K2.

Thanks!
