[Elecraft] K1 alignment information

To all K1 Elecrafters, (K2 ????)

If any of you had/have difficulty aligning the slugs in the inductors on
the K1 filter board, here is a suggestion. This info has probably been on
the reflector before, but if so, I missed it and apologize for using the
bandwidth.

The green tool provided with the kit works OK, but just marginally. (HARD
TO SPIN SMOOTHLY BETWEEN THE FINGERS). Originally, I trimmed an old,
round, plastic alignment tool to fit the small slots and it worked
OK. However, this was "cobbled" and wasn't much better then the green flat
tool. There had to be a better method.

Check out a RADIO SHACK, 3-Piece Anti-Static Alignment tool Kit, p/n
64-2230. Cost is $3.99 +. One of the tools "exactly" fits the slot in
the slug cores. Then, plagiarizing a trick from another old ham back in my
Heathkit SB-102 days, place a folded piece of masking tape around the
alignment tool, so a 1/2" flap sticks out perpendicular to the tool. Then
it is easy to check out the position of the tape when peaking the
coil. Wunderbar! Hope this helps someone.

The other two tools are a bonus.
