Yes, that's the way to do it, "keep working on the code". DX is way =
easier at 5W on CW. About 1/2 of my K2 contacts are DX, and none are SSB =
(of course, I haven't held a microphone since my D-104 bit me on the lip =
with RF in 1979. That HURT!).
I did buy the KSB2 for PSK31 and a microphone. The SSB is built, but the =
microphone is still in it's [well insulated - very safe] shipping =
container.
Wanna play? I'm bored. Tell me your QTH and we'll pick a band to work =
this Tuesday morning. I can key as slow as you can copy.
GL DX de WG4S, Dan in Atlanta (or the top of Lookout Mountain - I'm =
in-between QTH's). K2 #2456

Subject: [Elecraft] Thanks and the Ukraine!
Greetings:
First, thanks for the responses to my query about books on stealthy =
wire
antennas. At the moment it is a 70m horizontal loop up 12 to 15 feet =
laying
on the shingles around the perimeter of my roof and fed with 300 ohm
twinlead. Tuning with a MFJ 949E is really, really touchy. I'm feeling =
the
itch for a KAT2 and a 4:1 balun; I was holding out for the 100w version.
So last night I heard UR9MC on 20m SSB calling NA with a 58 signal. I =
gave
him a call. He came back with the first 3 letters. A couple exchanges =
later
he had the whole thing and gave me a 54 report. So with 10 watts out of =
K2
#1932, he is the 9th entry in my logbook and my first DX. Kids saw an
unusually excited dad. Wife says I talked in my sleep all night. =
Probably
dreams of stealth 20m delta arrays or phased wire beams or something =
dancing
in my head. At 2 QSO's per week (work, kids, Scouts, . . .), WAS, WAC, =
DXCC
is going to take awhile. Probably should order some QSL cards. Of =
course, I
could keep working on the code and get up more nerve . . .
