I hope you gave him an honest report.

I tested my K2 by recording my own signal as it was received on an auxiliary
receiver while I transmitted into a dummy load. I was quite satisfied with
the audio. My gravelly voice rumbled along very much like it does with a mic
hooked to the recorder.

On-the-air reports agree with me. I wouldn't try to make a value judgement
such as "hi fi"- considering that the K2 design carefully limits the audio
frequency bandpass as it should. But I can say that the signal my K2 makes
on SSB is very clean and the audio is perfectly satisfactory to me.

Monitoring our own signals to check the quality seems to be a "lost art"
these days. Perhaps one that sorely needs resurrecting!
