Garth,
The only comments you see are from those who want a different knob.
There are many of us who are very satisfied with the original, just
don't take the time to write. For my 42 years of hamming, knobs are one
thing that I have seen that so many have individual taste. You should
see some of the "interesting" things people do to/for their knobs. :-)

Subject: [Elecraft] I >>like<< the K2 knob
Ok, I know I'm in the miniority here, but I've read so many messages
bashing
the K2's knob, I had to chime in. I really LIKE the K2 knob.
I got used to tuning my Kenwood 850 without the "dimple" - my finger
would
simply graze and slide on the face of the knob, without ever hitting the
edge. AFter a while, I kind of "liked" this way of tuning, and was
able to
pretty accurately "spin" the vfo by using a little pressure on the front
of
the knob. When I tried to tune a kenwood 570, it felt wrong, because
that
technique doesn't work when a dimple exists. I prefer the flat knob
face.
The K2 works the same way for me. Sometimes I'll let my hand rest on the
top
of the K2 and use my thumb on the knob face. Sometimes I'll let my hand
sit
on the desk and use my index finger on the knob face. Either works
fine.
Never been bothered by the sharp edge, because I don't ever touch the
ribbed
side or the edge of the knob, just the face.
I do have a major beef with the K2's tuning though - too much turning
needed
to move the VFO. I'd like to see a single turn cover a lot more area
(more
like the K1) without having to give up resolution (still 10hz steps).
I
love using the K1 because the VFO feels so quick and agile compared to
the
K2. This isn't something a new knob can fix, though. If someone has
come
up with a mod for this I'd love to try it - I assume it would involve
replacing the encoder and maybe software changes.
