Make PIC code open source (was: [Elecraft] Next?)

If all other radio manufacturer's were to open source their code for their
radios then I would suspect that Elecraft would as well.  Since that doesn't
appear to be the case then I won't expect to see Elecraft release their
code.

I tend to disagree about open source for the Elecraft radios.  Although
it would be great for the few of us who may be inclined to reprogram our
radios it would not be a good business decision for Elecraft.  The
source code is the last unexposed piece of intellectual property that
Elecraft has.  The design and theory of the radio are already open.
 Disclosure of the the source code would leave Elecraft open to the
development of cheap imitations and possibly allow a competitor to jump
start their development.
