Yes that would work or you could build up a mic connector with only a PTT
switch and no mic. However I find if you are in a fairly quiet room you can
do it with the microphone (you can turn on the mic attenuator in the SSB
menu also). Just be careful not to make any loud sounds or you will peg the
meter. Keep the power control at minimum so the max output is .1 watts to
protect the meter in case there is an unexpected sound. I find this is a
quick and easy method to get r1 set right but there are several other
methods.
