What is or isn't QRP has changed over the years. Happily hamming along
I've only had 2 rigs that ran more than 100w or more. A Swan 400
(talk about a crappy RX)
and my K2/100. Usually ran 25-50 watts or less on whatever band I was
into at the time including 2 and 6 meter DX. Consciencely never went QRP until
the late '70s with a few watts on 40 and 15 meters.
So I've always been QRP for the most part.
Now your saying well 50 watts isn't QRP. My QRP ARC INternational
Certificate (#4916, 11/2/81) states QRP as 50 watts or less.
Who makes up these hard core rules? I'm not aware of any unified
qRP worldwide group. Certainly not the ITU. I liked QRP when it was a
bit more fun and not loaded up snobbery such as million miles/watts, and
72's, or 5 watt rigs loaded into full size 7 element beams at 60
feet, etc.(time to put on the asbesto underwear).
I used to sign /QRP, it did get me more qso's, also a pink slip from the
FCC. /QRP is not legal in the US.
Well like I always say the first 500 watts is the most important.
