Hi David,

The two tuners should work almost identically, so chances are there's a problem
with your KAT100. In addition to the obvious (making sure that you have the
antenna connected to the right jack on the back), try the suggestions in the
Troubleshooting section of the KAT100 manual. By using the L and C relay test
menu entries, you can locate a failing relay or an inductor or capacitor that is
not soldered properly, etc. 

Most of the difficulties like you're reporting turn out to be a poorly-stripped
toroid lead, although a bad capacitor or relay or even a bad shift register IC
is a possibility. The relay tests in the menu should help a lot.
