[Elecraft] SSBC - dB or not dB?

O wise ones:
Since K2 0058's first SSB QSO, 7/30/00, many unsolicited compliments
have been received re: speech quality. I ascribe this to the
effectiveness of pre-modulation compression applied to speech-peaks
by the SSBC parameter, which I usually set at 4-1 when chasing DX, or
communicating under less than perfect condx. I'd like to be able to
inform interested stations about this in some detail - can the values
of SSBC (2-1 to 4-1) be expressed in dB?
Incidentally, 0058 achieved ARRL Millenium DXCC, 10 watts SSB, in its
first two months on the air, and continues dedicated to SSB and
digital modes exclusively. I figure sufficient hommage has been paid
to Sam Morse, professionally and avocationally, since our first
encounter in 1935...
