Peter,
I can only emphasize that I was not aware of any mechanical damage. My K2 is
transported carefully (I always carry it by myself..!), only god knows 
how it happened.

I've experienced the unscrewing, too, but only on the two screws holding 
the top cover on the left and
right side. Dunno why.

Maybe that's the reason, but then I'd say if the knob is heavier than 
the original one it would
put even more tension to the shaft.
